Miguel Viegas went to Lisbon, representing GUE/NGL on a Mission of the Panama Papers’ Inquiry Committee to gather information on money laundry and tax evasion.
Portugal had 10 billion Euros flying to tax havens without any control between 2011 and 2014. And every day, 2.3 million euros currently leaving Portugal for tax havens without, also any control.
Former representatives of the tax administration are working now in the Big Four auditing and consultant companies, or as advisors on tax havens.
There is no political will to tackle the problem as the interests of the political powers end up being subordinating to those of the economic powers.
